Late Autumn Romance – Kelly & Chris, The Homestead
Kelly and Chris reached out to my studio about 18 months before their wedding. Based in Seoul, South Korea, it was all arranged long distance.
This is becoming more and more common with the global village we have and I often only meet my couples on the day of their wedding.
Kelly was a beautiful soul who had a pretty good idea of what she liked and in particular, the dahlia’s, which are enjoying their moment in the spotlight at present. Having a wedding in May was touch and go as to whether we’d still get any, as they are native to Mexico and like having warm roots. So if winter came early (which it was threatening to), they’d stop flowering. So happy we found just enough from one of our lovely micro-flower farmers, based not too far from Cape Town.
In fact, all of the flowers we used were sourced from Cape Town area flower farms, my own garden or responsibly foraged from the neighbouring areas.
The Homestead is a truly gorgeous little venue (home base for the Food Fanatics catering company), based right in the heart of the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town – the gardens are beautiful, even in winter. Despite the threat of rain, the ceremony was able to take place in the pretty garden and then guests moved under the tented area for the reception. They have an indoor space as a backup in case of bad weather. It’s not the biggest venue, but for small an intimate weddings, it’s a gem to consider.
We created a statement arch in the garden, which became the backdrop for all the family and friend group photos. and added soft coloured candles, flowers in kenzans in the gentlest of colours, to add plenty of warmth and romance for their guests at the outdoor dining tables.
My thanks to Kelly & Chris for their trust in my studio to bring their vision to life. And for the kind words sent the day after the wedding.
“Dear Coral,
